Company History
Our Story
The foundation for Thune Insurance began when Norrie Thune first opened his office in 1965 in Red Lake Falls, MN
selling personal and commercial propery & casualty insurance to area residents.
After years of provding service to the area communities, Norrie moved to Thief River Falls after acquiring the insurance
office on North Labree of Les Ihle in 1973. Shorly after, Norrie began working with Stan Upham, and as the business
grew, the two formed a partnership, deciding to do business under the new name, Thune Upham Insurance. Later, in 1979 the business
expaned further and eventually moved it's operations to the current location at 1511 Northland Plaza. After more than two decades
of partnership together and eyeing retirement, the decision was made to sell the business.
With the chance to leave the metro area and return to his hometown, Mark Thune moved back to Thief River Falls in 1997, purchasing
his fathers business, rebranding it Thune Insurance Network, Inc. Five years later, in 2002, Mark seized the
opportunity to expand further north by purchasing the
insurance offices inside of Border State Bank of Roseau, and branded it Border Insurance Network, operating as a
division of the main office which remained in Thief River Falls. In 2007 another opportunity arose, this time to
purchase Bakke Insurance, giving the business its full array of products, now including health, life, and employee
benefits. In 2010 it was decided to consolidate the businesses under one umbrella to better serve their customers
as one full service organization, Thune Insurance Network, Inc.
